Exercise Metabolic Rate VO2max Assessments Services

The first step in understanding the purpose of a metabolic exercise test is to first review what exercise is. We do exercise to stimulate an adaptive response - different exercises stimulate different responses. A misconception is that the greater the intensity, the more adaptations. This is not the case when it comes to your energy systems. Different intensities stimulate the development or increased capacity of different energy systems. Running uses both aerobically and anaerobically produced energy. As running intensity or speed increases aerobic capacity is reach, and the more the runner starts to use anaerobically produced energy. This is hard to sustain, and the longer the running event, the more a runner’s speed and performance will depend on the overall capacity of their aerobic energy systems.
A Metabolic Exercise Test results in a metabolic profile which is a measure of how well developed a person is in each energy system.

Metabolic Assessments at rest and/or are used to:
- Establish accurate heart rate zones to train your body to be aerobically efficient
- Monitor your body’s adaptation to training
- Modify training programs according to your progress to enhance results
- Determine your nutritional needs for maximum training and performance during competition
Fifteen minute VO2 assessments performed at during exercise can determine your:
- VO2 Max
- Aerobic Base
- Anaerobic Threshold (Lactate Threshold)
- Pace or Heart Rate Training Zones
- Caloric Burn Rate During Exercise
